Kent RAYNET assisting Castle RideAll four RAYNET groups will be providing members to assist in communications for the 100 mile cycle ride, for the charity Action Medical Research. The ride starts and finishes at Tonbridge Castle, passing through Sevenoaks, Chatham, East Malling, Maidstone, out to Tenderden, Cranbrook and eventually back to Tonbridge. Along the way, they will be able to visit other castles such as Leeds and Sissinghurst. The large area that this event covers, and the variable terrain makes this event a real challenge - not only for the riders, but for communications to the various marshall checkpoints, water stations and vehicles covering safety around the course. Events such as these are invaluable to RAYNET operators, who learn to work with each other, honing thier message skill, radio operation, and learning the logistics of what is needed to cover the variable terrain.
